Love hearts? Enjoy these from world travelers!

Do you see hearts in your surroundings or even create them when inspired? Are you a romantic? Yes? Then you’ll love these images and stories! To celebrate Valentine’s Day we asked our readers and fellow travel bloggers to share a favorite heart from their travels, plus we added a few of our own. View the video above for a musical preview featuring You’re the Reason That I Sing.

You know we’re all about romance, baby!

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Romance in the form of hearts can appear in unexpected ways.
Sometimes they’re obvious, sometimes you have to stretch your imagination a bit to really see the heart, and still other times it’s the story behind the heart that is the true essence of romance. Enjoy!

White Sands, New Mexico – Romancing The Globe

If you’re lucky, hearts and sunsets coincide. We loved our afternoon exploring White Sands National Monument. The 360 degree sunset was brilliant. Sound carries across the dunes! We were standing on different slopes about 200 yards apart and could hear each other as if only a few feet apart! Sheila was inspired to create this 12 foot heart. Tom and Sheila

Doel, Belgium – Travel Pray Love

This bright red, beautiful graffiti heart can be found in the half-abandoned, doomed city of Doel, Belgium. The town, infamous for its graffiti, is not quite a ghost town, because a few of the residence refused to leave when the town was scheduled for demolition to make a larger harbor near the nuclear plant there. Jaimee Nicole

 Croatia – Chasing the Donkey

Licitar hearts are sugar coated heart shaped gingerbread biscuits traditionally given as an ornamental gift for Weddings, Valentine’s day and other important days in Croatia. The tradition commenced in the middle ages in northern Croatia and continues to this day. As an important part of northern Croatia’s cultural heritage, it was added to the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list in 2010. SJ and Mate Begonja

Galapagos Islands, Ecuador – Getting Stamped

We captured this cute photo of a sea lion with a heart shaped nose in Galapagos, while on a week cruise around the Galapagos Islands. This little guy was sound asleep taking a nap on the beach while drying off after an afternoon swim. Thankfully he was a good model for our photo shoot, he slept through the whole thing! Hannah and Adam

La Romana, Dominican Republic – Frankie Goes to Milan

La Romana, Dominican Republic. Our first holiday together. On the last day we got up early to head to the beach to watch the sun rise , sharing a special moment as Gary for the first time, told me he was in love with me. Francesca Course

Cornwall, England – A Luxury Travel Blog

England’s answer to Mont St. Michel in France is Cornwall’s St. Michael’s Mount. As you may or may not know, St. Michael’s Mount is a land where giants once roamed and legend has it that one giant named Cormoran, who plundered livestock from the mainland, was one morning tricked by a boy called Jack who dug a hole the giant fell into. The giant’s heart (we’ll assume you know that giants’ hearts are made of stone) was placed in the path leading up The Mount. Can you see it?

If you place your foot on the stone in question and your right hand on your left shoulder, you can feel the giant’s heart beating. It works best on the way up rather than the way down. Dr. Paul Johnson

Salzburg, Austria – Postgrad and Postcards

After spending the morning traipsing around reenacting scenes from “Sound of Music,” we reached X bridge that connects the two halves of Salzburg, Austria. I excitedly spent a good bit of time exploring the different locks, becoming fixated on this lock spreading such a positive message to the passersby. Lauren

Sanibel Island, Florida – Retirees on the GO

I got up at sunrise one morning while on Sanibel Island, Florida, to make this heart for my wife, Mona.  It took quite some time to put it together and I couldn’t wait for her to see it.  I was getting ready to call her to invite her to the beach when I received a text saying, “I’ve fallen and can’t get up!”  I rushed back to our condo to find her on the floor with her iPhone.  She had slipped on some water and she fell hard.  Luckily, Mona was okay but really shaken.  We finally got back to the beach a few hours later, but it certainly wasn’t as romantic as I had hoped.  Oh well, it’s the thought that counts, right?!?  Budapest, Hungary – B Travels Better

I was walking over one of the many bridges in Budapest and taking photos. I stumbled upon an area of the bridge that had love locks attached to the lights. Budapest quickly stole my heart. Becca Goldman

Phoenix, Arizona – Jen There Done That

I captured this heart photo in December 2015, while out hiking with friends in South Mountain Park.  We all love hiking in the Arizona desert. The link to my story includes various trail descriptions! Jen Morrow

Weott, California – Polka Dots and Picometers

This photo was taken on the Avenue of the Giants in Humboldt Redwoods State Park. At the end of October 2015, I was driving north from Los Angeles to embark on a year-long, nationwide research project on Art as therapy. I pulled off the road to soak up the enormity of it all! I felt so small, humble, and finally alone to pursue my purpose project. I took so many photos with my camera, it wasn’t actually until WEEKS later that I was scrolling through my gallery that I SAW this heart! In the negative space of the trees, this heart caught me by surprise. Being alone on the road, with self-imposed goals and deadlines, it’s easy to lose focus…but seeing this heart really reminded me who I am, why I’m collecting this research, traveling and meeting incredible people…I care a lot about a lot! It was the perfect reminder. Joan Marie Hurwit

Cape Town, South Africa – Klipdrifters Trail

Spotted the “heart of the mountain” at Clifton beach, Cape Town, South Africa. We made a quick stop for a bite to eat at Clifton before driving through the scenic Chapman’s peak drive.  The beach is next to an exclusive residential area, which is home to some of the most expensive real estate in South Africa. This heart was hanging between the beach and the promenade. It’s amazing what you see when you open your heart to travel. Heather and Lisa

A few more favorite hearts from Romancing the Globe:

 Criccieth, Wales

Heart shaped rocks on the beaches in Wales, a huge one at Castle Criccieth and conveniently red in color.

 Thailand

A man-made heart, eight feet underwater in the Andaman Sea during a snorkel stop while bareboat sailing in Thailand. A heart-shaped pile of elephant poo we shoveled at Elephant Nature Park, and a romantic room with Thai-style luxury in Chiang Mai.

Cardiff Castle, Wales and London, England

Many Welsh spoons incorporate the heart and this one was attached to our room key during our stay at a castle in Wales! The heart space within the clouds was near Heathrow on our last day London.

We hope that each time you see a heart or feel inspired to create one, you take that moment to know you are loved!

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!

Love, Sheila and Tom

Thanks Noemi! I see your name on your blog, but I bet a lot of people call you Pinay! Yes, some of the hearts require a second look. I love that we can each see the same thing a different way and often our view depends on our mood and the company we’re with 🙂

Jaimee, thanks so much! Love your unique heart and story from Belgium. We had such a great visit to Belgium and The Netherlands. Turns out we were very close to Doel when we were in Antwerp, but had no idea about it til your post prompted me to find it on a map 🙂 Thanks!

Thanks Hannah! You sure did 🙂 What an amazing little critter! The Galapagos Islands are on our bucket list BIG time and now that I know there are heart-shaped noses to be found, well you can imagine how much higher on the list it is!
