Summer in Scotland, Wales and England – Returning to the scene of the crime.
UPDATE! This was an amazing trip with multiple stories. Start here in Edinburgh.
Yep, it’s been 5 years since our honeymoon in Scotland –
and our honeymoon in Scotland was our first fabulous home exchange. How perfect that we would get an invitation to return to Scotland for our 5 year anniversary!
This time we’ll be in the center of Edinburgh within walking distance of the famous castle. Too bad Tom’s wedding kilt is too heavy to fit in our luggage! Timing is most of July and early August while our Edinburgh hosts are enjoying our home in Colorado. They are wonderful! We already really like them via skype and email, so we’re looking forward to the exchange.
We’ll explore the local area (maybe see Puffins!) and go on day trips to St. Andrews, Stirling and more (suggestions?). We’ll visit friends from our first home exchange in Lockerbie and Dumfries, if they happen to be home from their travels. We’re also looking for suggestions for overnight road trip excursions – probably Cairngorms National Park, Aberdeen, Bullers of Buchon, coastal areas and possibly the Isle of Skye.
Of course, Tom will be taking his golf clubs. Doesn’t he have the most AWESOME wife? So, golf course suggestions are very welcome. He’s played at St. Andrews, Royal Dornoch, North Berwick, Southerness and Powfoot. Perhaps you could suggest a few specialty shop ideas for me to bide my time, as well?
Do you know of any Bed and Breakfasts or castles or other interesting places to stay?
We’ve discovered the joy of pinning! Here are some ideas and inspiration we found for this trip. Please share your pins with us!
After Edinburgh, we’re excited to drive south to explore Wales in August and visit friends in southern England. We have some ideas, but all suggestions are welcome. Wales is a first for both of us and everything we see about it is GLORIOUS! Coastline, mountains, national parks, villages, port cities…! We’ll look for inns / bed & breakfasts in North Wales for a few days then South Wales for a few days, plus we’ll have some time in Gloucester with a lovely hospitality home exchange.
In southern England, we plan to see friends in the Kingsbridge/Devon area and we’ll spend time with friends in the Portsmouth area, plus visit the Isle of Wight for Cowes Week, one of the largest yachting regattas in the world.
It’s quite likely that we’re trying to see too many areas during this trip, so please guide us! It also will be the UK’s vacation from school, so popular areas may be very crowded. We’d be happy to find the lesser known jewels!
